In this globalised world and time, numerous festivals across the globe bring together international artists, bands and dj’s of all genres. With the increasing number of festivals, we give you a small list of festivals which should be on your to-do list in this lifetime. These are some of the most amazing festivals across the globe, experiences which absolutely legendary!
1. Summerfest (also known as "The Big Gig")
This is a yearly music festival held in June at the 75-acre Henry Maier Festival Park along the lakefront in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the United States. The festival lasts for 11 days, is made up of 11 stages with performances from over 700 bands. Summerfest attracts between 800,000 and 1,000,000 people each year, promoting itself as "The World's Largest Music Festival".
2. Sziget Festival, Hungary
Held in Budapest the event lasts for seven days and by the end of the week around 1000 artists would have performed. Attracting over 350,000 visitors, 2012 looks to be a great year with bands including The Stone Roses, Placebo, The Horrors, Hurts, Noah and the Whale, Crystal Fighters, Mando Diao, The Subways, Axwell, Beatsteaks, Ministry, and Caro Emerald. The dates for 2012 are from 6th – 13th August 2012
3. The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival
A one a kind music festival, its held annually in San Francisco, California at Golden Gate Park. Outside Lands also features attractions that focus around food, wine, and art. The festival is designed to utilize several strategies of being eco-friendly, as well as to educate the public about eco-friendly movements.
5. Sunburn Music Festival
Sunburn is an electronic dance music festival held in Candolim Beach, Goa, India in December. The festival is an amalgamation of music, entertainment, food and shopping. Held over three days, the festival has multiple stages with famous artists playing simultaneously daily. With a crowd of about 1,00,000, it is a large scale festival indeed!
Organised in Saalburg, Germany it’s an annual electronica festival where the most celebrated DJs and performers in the electronic music community meet to mingle, relax, make music, and throw a huge party. The name is from a German nursery rhyme (Sonne = Sun, Mond = Moon, Sterne = Stars) and the location in rural southeastern Germany is about as pastoral and childlike as well, a nursery book.
A very popular festival around the world, it's held in Belgium as an outdoor dancing festival organized every year in the town of Boom since 2005. Some big names to perform here are Armin Van Buuren, Afrojack, Above & Beyond, Carl Cox, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Fedde le Grand, Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn, Swedish House Mafia, Cosmic Gate, Avicii, Faithless and Tiësto.The dates declared fir 2012 are 26th-30th July!
7. Splendour in the Grass
This annual Australian music festival held in July at Belongil Fields, outside Byron Bay. With a current capacity of 30,000 and an event spanning three days, Splendour in the Grass is generally considered to be the country's largest winter music festival.Starting on 27th July 2012 to 29th July, it promises to be a wonderful experience!
8. The Roskilde festival
Organised in Denmark this is one of the biggest European music festivals. It’s now run as a non-profit event with the aim of developing music and culture in the area. The festival is usually a great mix of music, 24 hour parties, organic food and experimental art and design. Everyone arrives early so you could potentially have up to eight days of fun. The dates declared for 2012 are 5th – 8th July 2012.
9.The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts
Commonly abbreviated to Glastonbury or even Glasto, is a performing arts festival held in June. It's held near Pilton, Somerset, England, best known for its contemporary music, but also for dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts. Attended by approximately 150,000 people, it’s one of the biggest music festivals in the world!
10. Pinkpop Festival, Netherlands
This Dutch festival takes place in Landgraaf and is thought to be one of the oldest annual festivals in the world, having started in 1970. It’s a three day event and over the years some big names have attended the event. The 2012 year line up includes The Cure, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Linkin Park, The Hives, Paul Kalkbrenner, James Morrison and Bombay Bicycle Club.
11.Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, Germany
These two sister events make up one of the largest music festivals in the world. Afterall Germans are known for their love for rock and beer! Located in Nürburgring and Nuremberg, with a few exceptions both three day festivals normally have identical lineups. Often a sold out event, the festival attracts around 150,000 die hard rock and alternative fans all determined to party hard. So far the bands for 2012 has been confirmed as Metallica and Die Toten Hosen to headline and other bands to appear include Soundgarden, Kasabian, Tenacious D, Linkin Park, Motorhead, The Offspring, M.I.A and Tinie Tempah.
12.The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival
This famous annual four day music festival created and held at Great Stage Park on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, USA. The main attractions of the festival are the multiple stages of live music, featuring a diverse array of musical styles including indie rock, world music, hip hop, jazz, americana, bluegrass, country music, folk, gospel, reggae, electronica, and other alternative music. Past notable acts include Kenny Rogers, The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffett, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band, Death Cab for Cutie, etc.
