Woh Lamhe Movie Review

High on hype, high on substance as well! That sums up WOH LAMHE, directed by Mohit Suri. It requires guts to make a film that defies stereotype. But Mohit Suri succesfully manages that and churns out a film that stays  in your heart  even after the show is over.

Film Actress Sana Azim (Kangna Ranaut) slashes her wrist in an attempt to kill herself. When this news reaches film maker Aditya Garewal (Shiny Ahuja), he is devastated.

He never had imagined that the woman he was looking all over the world would meet him like this. Sana who was intensely involved with Aditya, had mysteriously disappeared from his life three years ago.

In an era where most writers/directors focus on gimmicks while the story takes a complete backseat, WOH LAMHE stands out as an exception. Here’s a story that’s refreshingly different from what we’ve viewed so far.

The focus is clearly on content, not gimmicks.The film is extremely successful in drawing the viewer into its world.Director, Mohit Suri takes us to a film world that is much-discussed and has become a part of our everyday life. One identifies instantly with the drama. The narrative gives the viewer a microscopic view of how the Film Industry functions.

The theme of the story is definitely its strong point. The moments we spend with the person we love, the pain of separation, the helplessness of circumstances..these emotions do remain with us forever. But the movie rests on the shoulders of the cast. Kangana, undoubtedly, is a superb actor. She emotes fear, love, pain..with a spontaneous ease. Shiney is almost synonymous with maturity and intensity. Even though Kangana is quite the focus here, he manages to make his mark. He brings out all the nuances of Aditya’s character in an uncannily natural manner. The rest of the cast is also well chosen. Masumeh, as Sana’s hallucination and Shaad, as her boyfriend deserve special mention.

After establishing the characters in the initial reels, the story gathers momentum only in the INTERVAL POINT when Kangana is admitted in the mental hospital. The sequences thereafter are skilfully executed, mainly the Goa portions.

Mohit Suri’s indelible stamp comes to the fore in the final half-an-hour of the film. The final is simply brilliant and the plight of the lovers moves you. The emotions depicted are successful in striking a chord.

Brilliantly shot by cinematographer and efficiently edited WL also boasts of brilliantly-composed Dial that are soaked in emotions and remarkable performances by the entire cast.

Kangana is an actor to watch. She has all the qualities to hit the top slot. Not only is she good looking, but she is an amazing performer as well.Her emotional sequences are so powerful that they are bound to melt even the stone-hearted. Only thing,
she needs to go easy on her make-up.

Shiney is sure to find a place in all award nominations next year. You can’t help but put your two hands together for this powerful performance!

The music gels well with the narrative. ’Kya Mujhe’ and ’Bin TERE’ are the pick of the lot.

On the whole, ‘Woh Lamhe’ is a well-crafted, finely written, beautifully enacted movie that is definitely worth a watch.
