Hi,

I thought of making this topic to explain the various features of the forums. First we will start of with the basics and then go on to the cooler features of the forums :)

Note that you will have to be logged in to access all sections and reply/post topics. Login using the login box above. If you do not have an account then <a href="http://www.funonthenet.in/component/option,com_smf_registration/task,register/">register here[/url]

Here are some of the new features -

Profile

Everyone is requested to fill their profile. For filling your profile click on profile button on the bar and then click on 'Forum Profile Information' (encircled in red in the picture below)

After filling in the fields, be sure to click on 'Change Profile' button at the end to save your profile!

Quick Edit

The new forum has a feature for editing posts without refreshing the page! This makes editing posts much faster and easier. This is possible due to AJAX.

Encircled in red in the picture below is the quick edit button. When you click on it a textbox will come up right there and you can edit your post and click save and the modifications will be visible immediately, all this without refreshing the page :)

You can also email the topic to a friend by clicking on 'SEND THIS TOPIC' in the topic toolbar (as seen above).

If you want to edit the old way then just click on the modify button on top right of your post.

Member levels increase by postcount. Listed below are the member levels-

FOTN Hero	8000

Now we will look at some FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

1) What is karma? How does it change?

Karma basically shows how many people thought positively about your posts. Your karma is shown below your nickname/avatar. If someone clicks on  (http://www.funonthenet.in/forums/Themes/default/images/up.gif) then your karma is increased by 1 point and if someone clicks on (http://www.funonthenet.in/forums/Themes/default/images/down.gif) then it is decreased by 1 point. Please use it to appreciate good posters. You can change other people's karma by clicking on positive or negative below their karma display. (Note that you cannot change your own karma) There are some restrictions on post count before you can give karma and time interval between giving karma to avoid misuse.

You need a minimum of 25 posts to change karma of others.

2) How do I change my display name?

By default your display name is first & last name as you entered during registrations. To change it go to profiles by clicking on "Profile" on the top toolbar.

Then go to "Account Related Settings" under the heading "Modify Profile".

Refer to the first picture. It is the last option under modify profile.

Change your name and click on the button "change profile" below and your done!

3) How do I change my password/email address?

Go to your profile (by clicking on "Profile" on the top toolbar) then to "Account related settings"

Over there you can change your password and email address and the click change profile button to apply them.

4) How do I put up an avatar/signature/set birthdate

Go to "Forum Profile Information" below  "Account Related Settings" under the heading "Modify Profile" and do the neccessary changes! Main thing is to click "change profile" at the bottom when your done.

Note that you can also change other settings under the various headings, do check out all the options!

5) How to enable Quick Reply

Quick Reply is a nifty tool with which you can reply on the thread itself. It shows up after the last post on that page. If it is disabled enable it under "Look and layout Preferences" in Profile. Change "Use quick reply on topic display" to show, on by default.

6) How do I easily Private Message Members

There are multiple ways to private message people.
1) You can click on the (http://www.funonthenet.in/forums/Themes/default/images/im_on.gif) icon on every users post.
2) The easiest and direct way is to click on the online/offline status indicator round button.
3) Alternatively click on 'My Messages' in the toolbar.

7) How do I send a topic to a friend.

Click on 'Send this Topic' button in the topic toolbar. Refer to the quick edit image above.

8) How do I put images on the forum

9) What is the Posting Frequency bar?

It is a bar which graphically shows how many posts per day are made by the user (and displays the value if you hover over it). This is not related to the total number of posts, it just shows how many "posts per day" the user has made since joining the forum (on average). This value can be seen in the profile summary of the user also.

There are 4 levels of users -

Level 1 - Green Colour Bar - 0-10 posts/day
Level 2 - Gray Colour Bar - 10-20 posts/day
Level 3 - Red Colour Bar - 20-30 posts/day
Level 4 - Black Colour Bar - 30-40 posts/day

For users above Level 1, the level is shown above the bar.

That is happening because somebody already has an account with name "Surbhi". (The 'Name' must be showing up in red after you change it).

You might want to add your last name or modify it a bit so that its unique.

The Karma option below the name doesn't appear.. Suggestions Pls.

Yes, one can only change other people's karma. The Positive and negative link will not be visible for your own account.


Well you can already modify other people's karma with the positive/negative options :)

oh i dint type properly i meant our own karma

hehe.. now that would be kinda pointless wouldnt it.. people giving themselves positive ratings all the time ;)

one question maxx,i noticed some topics have sticky wtitten next to them.what does sticky mean?

Sticky means that the topics remain at the top at the thread listing. This is usually done to the important/interesting topics :)

Really good changes have been take place in this form.

But wanted to know how can we change the font as presently only one font can be avaliable i.e.Verdana

You cannot change the font, altho u can change font size in the browser. Hold CTRL down and move scroll button on mouse.

For the previous outlook, when i have posted so many topic, i was able to post with differents fonts like Times Roman etc, and i suppose there is a miscommunication, i am asking about the font style while posting new topics and not on the browser font or the size.. Pls. consider the problem again.

You can still do that, click on the red 'A' symbol to the left of 'change colour'. Itll by default put font verdana tag, you can change it to whichever want you please :)

I require Tutorials on tables, rows creation and Column creation, I know the three matrix buttons which are on the top are for the same. but when i tried to insert a photo and to its adjacent there would be written matter explaining the photo. But the written matter was always going below the photos...which doesn't look good will reading the matter and want to view the photo at the same time..

Can you elaborate on what error your getting?

When I try to submit a score (specially for old games like Amira , Nortons , bricks, madness , rabit ) it takes me to forum home page.
I could log one or two scores in space hunter but not in others.
hope u will look into it.

I tried Amira and it submitted without error.. can somebody else try it and let me know also.


Currently it is unlimited, although limits might be put if the database size gets excessive.

Only a few people have access to upload @ the FOTN pictures gallery.

Although if you get over 100 posts then you can upload pictures to your personal gallery, the icon of which will appear with each post (My Galler) :)

you have to first make a siggi for putting it up to the signature place, you can ask for the siggi to VOLTAGE bhai and then he will tell you the correct procedure for it

When i type 'ipconfig' on dos prompt, i get different ip address, and what i get on FOTN is different. So how do i see my correct ip address?

What you get on FOTN is the external address (publicly visible to online sites). What you get in ipconfig would be your internal private address.

click the link & you will go to your profile info and you will find a signature tab there.. post the image within image rule with img tags [img ] [ / img]

Just upload the pics as attachments to the post. You cannot do this in quick reply box, click on the 'reply' button or click on 'preview' in quick reply and then you can put image attachments :)
