Driving in the dark is still one of the most strenuous driving situations and one which tends to present a greater risk. For improving the situation BMV developed this..
A thermal imaging camera covers an area up to 300 m in front of the vehicle. The image created on the central monitor displays objects more brilliantly, the greater the warmth registered by the camera. People (pedestrians at the edge of the road) and animals (wild animals crossing the road) would thus be the brightest areas of the image.

not quite the latest development Written by deejay442000 on 2005-08-13 02:15:52 Several years ago, Jaguar Motors had published a report of a similar device that works on IR (Infra Red radiation), the same principle that is used in TV remote controls. Subsequently, I also saw a TV report in "Top Gear", the BBC World program on motoring. The vehicle has an additional pair of headlights with powerful IR lamps. This radiation is not visible to the human eye, but the reflected IR light is picked up by a scanner and projected on the dashboard just like in the BMW here. The difference is that not just heat emitting bodies but everything is visible on the screen just as it would if illuminated with visible light. The IR beam, being invisible, cannot dazzle drivers of oncoming vehicles. |

BMW Night Vision and High-Beam Assist Written by gorakavipraveen on 2007-09-06 17:37:49 worst idea. They did not thought of future. It is no way different from high beam light used. Though IR is not visible to eye, If a similar car is coming opposite as an oncoming traffic, it detcts the car and out put would be similar to what naked eye suffers with high beam light. So they did not recovered this problem. It is only help ful when you(car driver with this equipment) is the only one who uses this technology on the entire road. Even co driveres moving on same track gets unpleasant output from the device. SO THE SYSTEM IS GOING TO FAIL FOR EVER. iITS NOT A SECURED ONE AND ALSO NOT A FEASIBLE AND DEPENDABLE IDEA FOR NIGHT DRIVING PEOPLE. Guys for any clarification from my statement, feel free to contact me at my email address
