Toby Stephens as William Gordon

Aamir Khan is back with the rising. As as you should expect it, he is excellent in his acting! Most of the time, actors who do a movie after a long pause, tend to Overact in their movies.. but amir khan has managed to deliver perfection in the role of mangal pandey. Apart from Amir Khan, Toby Stephens delivered a good performance in the role of William Gordon.

The story is about the first Indian Independance war or as the british call it the Mutiny. It has a good story line. But the songs in the movie ruins the flow of story. The movie could have definitely done without some songs, especially the holi songs. Another thing that the movie could have definetly done without are the two heroine's! Come on its a historical movie created to insipre the watchers about the first struggle of indian independence.. why would you have
to out love stories in it?

Few scenes done by amir khan and Toby Stephens were really amazing. The scene on the parade ground where Amir rebels by standing in front of the cannon is really amazing. The court room scene by Toby also leaves the audiance spell bound.

I would say that Mangal Pandey --  The rising! is a one time watch movie. All in all I would like to say that the movie did not deliver upto the expected standards but the actors definitely did. But all said and done the movie is perfectly Watchable, It informs, It entertains and ofcourse it has Aamir Khan after 4 years on screen.

The episode of Mangal Pandey took place in Barackpore about 18 years before the "Great Indian Mutiny" or the "1st War of Independence". Mangal Pandey was not involved in the matter of the cartridges being coated with animal fat.     The movie was well made and entertaining. However, the song and dance routines could have been eliminated. They only served to dilute the theme.     Rani's and Amisha's talents were totally wasted on flippant roles. They are capable of far better performances.

Movie is justifiable Written by gaurav408 on 2005-09-25 01:19:07 the whole Mangal Pandey episode was due to cartridges but it was not all the truth. moreover the movie made from commercial point of view so it was justifiable. every comm movie must have elements which keep masses to the edge of their seats. they have done justice in this case.   If u really wanna watch the history better watch documentries, which have the right and verified picture from authorities.   there was a movie on Subhash Chandra Bose recently released...which was a grt flop...and millions were spend on its making...but cant run for week and gone out of theaters..why??...no commercial value attached to it...only thing was the amount of money spend..worthless...i dont say movie was bad...but it did bad business...so History has nothing to do with the movie...its the movie customer's segement which makes it hit or flop..which clearly shows that v dont have historians in our society...  Mangal Pandey was good movie on the whole..with few hiccups and undigestable things...but enjoiable with damn good acting from Aamir Khan and ferengi mate...So guys watch the movie n enjoii it.
