EVER SEEN A WATER BRIDGE?

Water Bridge in Germany... What a feat!
Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long.......now this is engineering!

This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and
West Germany, as part of the unification project. It is located in the city
of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration.

Water Bridge Germany

Taking six years to build and costing around half a billion euros, the massive undertaking will connect Berlin's inland harbor with the ports along the Rhine river. At the center of the project is Europe's longest water bridge measuring in just shy of a kilometer at 918 meters. The huge tub to transport ships over the Elbe took 24,000 metric tons of steel and 68,000 cubic meters of concrete to build.

The water bridge will enable river barges to avoid a lengthy and sometimes unreliable passage along the Elbe. Shipping can often come to a halt on the stretch if the river's water mark falls to unacceptably low levels.

Amazing Water Bridge in Germany Written by vishonline on 2006-06-22 14:17:14 hello frnds,   Really impresive work. but for imformation, in INDIA 150 years back same type of bridge was made by brtishers at ROORKEE (Uttranchal). if you say germany bridge is amazing then what you said about Roorkee Bridge. the bridge is made over Sonali River to cross the GANG Cannal. and in INDIA the first Railway run for that Bridge to transport the raw material. after that the first passenger train runs between Bombay to Thane which we all read and know. whole Engineering College Of Roorkee (later IIT) was setup for that Bridge at that time. I SAID THAT THAT ROORKEE BRIDGE AND GANG CANAL IS THE MARVELLOUS NAD MAZING PIECE OF ENGINEERING. Just Imazing the Time Of 150 Year back, WOOOOOOOOOW.   Indian Government made the Second Bridge on the same location and of same type to reduce the pressure of old bridge, new bridge innougration is held in 1994. i think before the innoygration date of Germany Bridge.     Vishu   This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

In India we have a water bridge for irrigation purpose alone about 1.6km in length, crosses a valley joining fertile lands placed before Kabini reservoir at Karnataka. We call it a aquiduct which is still serving public. Godavari canal crosses Godavari river.
