Chup Chup Ke Bollywood Movie Review

One of the people in Bollywood who know how to make viewers laugh and entertain is Priyadarshan. He uses his unique style to entertain. And he uses his same style again in Chup Chup Ke and he succeeds!

The film is an exact remake of the Malayalam film "Punjabi House". In Chup Chup Ke, the family has been changed from Punjabi to Gujarati and the place from Kerala to Bengal.  Few comic scenes are added for Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav and a few trimmings in the story have been done to accommodate one additional song and the time used for the added scenes.

 

Small town boy, Jeetu (Shahid Kapur) is under debts and moneylenders. Due to his instability in career and debts, his father (Anupam Kher, a retired school teacher) suffers a lot. There is one more person, who suffers too. She is Pooja (Sushma Reddy), her fiancée. Her father (Manoj Joshi) does not consider Jeetu a fit match for his daughter and asks Pooja to tie the knot with someone else but she doesn’t want to leave Jeetu. This all leads Jeetu to commit suicide and he jumps in the sea so that his family can then claim for the insurance and pays off his debts. But destiny saves him and two fishermen – Gundya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav) find him entwined in fishing nets. He is now in a new place – Kolkata.

As a director, Priydarshan is in full form. With Chup Chup ke he proves that he has reinvented himself fully and that his new found comic formula- is here to stay. The film has a countless number of gags including superbly witty dialogues with hilarious one liners as well as zany slapstick.

The films narrative is superb. At times the film unfolds like a   sitcom while other times it feels theatrical as the emotions are so overly exaggerated. Right from the very first frame the film is laced with gags and punches which keep the viewer in splits.

All the characters have that extra zing that is needed and casting is fantastic from a critical point of view. Those who have always criticized Priyadarshans brand of cinema will again sit there and pick holes as the film defies logic. No doubt one must give credit to Priyadarshan for creating his own genre of cinema and not being apologetic for the kind of cinema he makes...above all his films are successful! One can call him the genius for today’s times...

In terms of performances the film as a ensemble cast of which all of them deliver the goods.

On the whole, Chup Chup Ke is a nice entertaining movie with nice performance, good direction and cool music. A good timepass fare.
