A website which combines Google Earth with a simple ratings system allows users to find the most beautiful or unusual places on our planet.

The photographs are randomly selected from 'snapshots' taken by users, and after a few clicks it becomes apparent just how varied, pretty, and colourful our little blue-green marble is.

Although adult female hippos can weigh upwards of 1.5 tonnes the cow was dwarfed by the male elephant - which was able to flip her with his trunk with ease.

'She landed on her back and rolled 360 degrees down the embankment towards the water,' Rian said.

'I felt very sorry for the mother trying to protect her young. It was quite emotional to see her go to those lengths, to stand her ground against a much bigger animal.

'You could see in her whole demeanor that she was quite taken aback, even the elephant seemed like he was thinking about what he did.'

The mother and the calf were quickly reunited but far from being lavished with sympathy, the herd acted aggressively towards her and she was forced to retreat with her calf and stand apart from the group.

The grumpy giant then treated himself to a dust bath before departing, leaving the hippos to finish grazing in peace.

'For me, it was the experience of a lifetime,' Van Schalkwyk said.

'I felt privileged to see animal behaviour like that, but I also felt for the mother. All of us just stood there for a while afterwards not talking, just taking in the scene.'

They say a mother will do anything for her child even if it means putting herself in harm's way.

The scene was captured by wildlife photographer Rian Van Schalkwyk, 40, at the Erindi Private Game Reserve in Windhoek, Namibia.

From the vantage point of a restaurant viewing deck overlooking a water hole, the photographer and his loved ones got a private view of this incredible animal interaction.

'I was taking photographs of the hippos in the water but because of the ongoing drought the staff came and put some grass out for hippos, because they have nothing else to eat,' Van Schalkwyk said.

Don't Panic! Worrying about your health can trigger real symptoms -

[attachimg=#]

Your mom always told you that worrying would make the shot worse, and now research confirms that some things really do hurt more if you think they will.

A study published recently in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research tested whether watching a video that warned about the negative health effects of electromagnetic fields would influence whether people developed actual symptoms. More than half the test subjects reported strange symptoms like headaches and tingling when they were told they were being exposed to a Wi-Fi signal—even though they actually weren’t. Participants who watched the scary video (versus a neutral video) were much more likely to feel the effects of “exposure.”

The findings confirm the power of placebo’s dark cousin, “nocebo”—in which a person’s negative expectations about a health situation can lead to real-life symptoms. “If someone expects adverse health effects, it’s very likely they will focus more on the body and notice sensations that might be falsely attributed to electromagnetic fields,” says study coauthor Michael Witthöft of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germany.

This phenomenon is actually quite common. “How people interpret the meaning of a situation depends a lot on the information they have at the moment,” says Dr. Arthur Barsky, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Hearing about a link between cell phones and brain cancer, for instance, will probably make that headache you typically ignore seem a lot more significant, along with the fact that “the more you concentrate on a symptom, the more intense it seems,” he says.

Wondering how you can stay informed about the latest health findings while avoiding excessive or misguided worry? Barsky offers these tips:

If you notice symptoms after hearing media reports about health conditions, think back to whether you’ve had those symptoms before and whether they went away on their own.

If you just can’t resist researching symptoms and medical conditions online, stick with credible sources (think the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, or Harvard University) to avoid fear-mongering.

If you tend to get sucked into lengthy online searches, set limits on how often and how long you search.

If searching is making you more anxious rather than helping, it’s time to stop and see a doctor for more information.

Spirituality and health are linked in such a fundamental way that it is really very hard to see.
Spirituality is a good way to find meaning, hope, comfort and inner peace in ones life.
Some people find spirituality in terms of religion.
Some also find it through music, art or perhaps through a connection with nature.
While Others may find it in their values and principle.

Not many really knows how spirituality is related to health.
None the less, it appears the body, mind and spirit are fundamentally connected.
