- FIFTEEN MAGIC MINUTES
I want to tell you about a magic 15 minute time frame
that is both critical and amazing. It is critical because if you let it pass, it will not happen again for at least 24 hours and even then it will not be the same as it was when you missed it. It is amazing because within that 15 minute time frame everything around us changes so dramatically that the difference is hard to fully appreciate.
I'm talking about that magic 15 minutes
that every star gazer
has experienced almost every time we go out to observe. It is that magical and amazing time somewhere between sunset and full darkness when the brightest stars make their first appearance and then if by some magical happening all the other stars and planets make their appearance. Now I realize that some of you are going to question whether that is a 15 minute time span or maybe some other measurement of time but regardless of how you look at it--it is magical
During this short time old pros will look to the sky and claim to see things that defy the eyesight of much younger eyes. Beginners will point toward some obscure area of the sky and ask the age old question--"what is the name of that star?" Eager beavers will be straining at the eyepiece of their scopes trying to make sure that they are the very first one to see "something". Others will have a recruit in tow and are trying to point out the faint outline of a familiar constellation. But no matter where you may fit into this equation, you will have to admit it is magical. Within an approximate 15 minute time span the sky has turned from just a routine sky to a night full of stars and planets that are eagerly awaiting our investigation. In that 15 minutes the sky becomes alive with stars, planets, galaxies, nebulas, and even man made satellites.
They were all there during the daylight but in that magical 15 minutes they became visible and real to us--the sky observers. There was a time when my attention during this magical 15 minutes was devoted to seeing the first "fireflies" of the evening. How much greater is the experience is of seeing the stars come into view.
- Magical Moment
the only chance you get,
how you live it,
what you take from it,
how much you give back,
a joy and a heartbreak,
doing the best with what you have,
loving with all of your heart,
treating all forms of it with respect,
and a wondrous beautiful mystery
“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family.”
